About us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The foundations for ChitoFarm Products were laid more than 30 years ago by Wiebe Postma. He came into contact with the shrimp-peeling company Heiploeg. This company was working on valorizing the residual streams from its shrimp-peeling factory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chitin that can be extracted from shrimp shells can be converted into chitosan via a chemical and enzymatic process. Chitosan was already being used in the biomedical world in the 1990s due to its antimicrobial and antimycotic (antifungal) effect.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Postma was asked to investigate whether this effectiveness could also be demonstrated for livestock health. Postma, who had a background in livestock farming himself, started his first experiments by adding chitosan to water, and later also to mint spray and a teat dip product. The results were amazing! Fewer diseases and better resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solubility of the product remained an issue, however. Therefore, from the early 2000s, Postma actively searched for a solution to make the product easily soluble. This was successful, resulting in the development of an easily applicable product that has since been further refined.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A few years ago, Postma saw that the market was finally ready for the large-scale application of the chitosan products. Postma is now over 80 years old, and to ensure continuity, he decided in 2025<\/strong> to transfer the professional sales of ChitoFarm Products to the current owner of ChitoFarm Products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Postma\u2019s heart and soul are in these products. That is why he remains involved with ChitoFarm Products in the background and is always ready to offer advice based on his extensive practical experience and knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Roan Vroom is the new owner. I am 21 years old and have completed my MBO (Intermediate Vocational Education) and then HBO (Higher Professional Education) in Dairy Farming<\/strong>. As a little boy, I already started working on the farm, where I discovered my passion for agriculture. For the past three years, I have been working as a freelancer (self-employed professional)<\/strong>, using my knowledge and enthusiasm to get the best out of the dairy farming industry. With a fresh perspective and great passion, I am ready to carry out my profession with dedication.
